Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm L’Ormarins in Franschhoek. Originally owned by the late Anthonij Rupert, who passed away in 2001, the farm was taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility on the estate, and the beginnings of what was to become a sprawling enterprise with a focus on terroir specific wines. Set on the slopes of the Great Drakenstein Mountain range the Rupert Wines Estate comprises two historic farms: L’Ormarins and Anthonij Rupert Estate. Today the Estate houses two tasting rooms, four state-of-the-art cellars, a lovingly tended rose garden, vineyards, the Franschhoek Motor Museum and the Drakenstein Stud Farm. Thus offering up a great variety of things to do and see at the Rupert Wines Estate.
What an amazing opportunity I got when I was invited to visit Anthonij Rupert Wines in Franschhoek to experience the Estate Package, one of many experiences that they have on offer.
The drive up to the Manor house is breathless. The property is so well kept, green and luscious lawns with beautiful rose bushes and flowers everywhere.
We arrived at about 10.45am and received a very warm welcome along with an ice cold glass of the L’Ormarins Method Cap Classique Brut NV. https://lormarinswines.com/cap-classique/ We were invited to walk around the Manor House to view their wines and products on display (all to purchase) as well as a beautiful bedroom in which I could not resist but take some photos. History is lined along the walls and makes for some interesting reading. A quick flit to rest rooms before departure. We were then handed a voucher which you need to hold onto throughout your visit. You need to present this at every stop during the day. At exactly 11am we departed from the Manor House and headed off to the Franschhoek Motor Museum via tram.
Once again our travels took us through really beautiful surroundings and I even got to view some of their horses frolicking in the paddocks. (I am great horse lover so this was a stunning moment for me).
We arrived at the Franschhoek Motor Museum and checked in at reception. Once again a warm and lovely greeting by the staff. We had an hour and a half to walk through 4 showrooms with over 80 motor vehicles and bikes on display. I took so many photos and had melt downs with all the beauty around us. My favourites were the 1957 Light Blue Protea and the red Viper GT2 from 2006…if only!! The gardens and rose bushes are beautiful that surround the showrooms. https://www.fmm.co.za/
The tram then arrived and whisked us away for our first wine tasting at Terra Del Capo along with lunch at the Antipasta Bar. On arrival we were handed another glass of L’Ormarins Method Cap Classique Brut NV (strongly becoming a firm favourite of mine). They also have lovely products on display and wine that one can purchase. A walk up their beautiful staircase leads you to their wine tasting centre. Yassiem was pretty knowledgeable about the wines and we enjoyed the 2020 Pinot Grigio, the 2017 Sangiovese and Arné. My favourite (and we all open to choices) was the 2017 Sangiovese @ only R100 per bottle! Great price for a stunning wine! https://terradelcapowines.com/
By now I was pretty famished and looking very forward to lunch. The restaurant is situated alongside the bottling plant and you are able to watch work in progress through floor to ceiling windows. The décor and furnishings are immaculate and super pretty. I loved the background music which suited the restaurant 100%. Their menu varies all the time but on Saturday we enjoyed some really scrumptious dishes (see attached) even though I cannot pronounce half of it. The food was all so fresh and well-presented and simply delicious, left there full and very satisfied…
Our final destination was the Manor house where our experience started for our final wine tasting of the Anthonij Rupert Range. I chose 3 wines. The 2017 Optima, 2014 Syrah and 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, my favourite being reds as you can see. What truly phenomenal wines and what a magical garden to taste them in. https://anthonijrupert.com/?no-check
After about 4 hours it was sadly time to bid farewell. This is one experience I will not forget and intend visiting soon to try one of their other tasting options that they have available and you can view then all here. https://anthonijrupertwyne.activitar.com/products

OUR RANGE IS CHARACTERISED BY GOOD QUALITY WINES THAT ALSO APPEAL TO A NOVICE WINE DRINKER. IT’S YOUR EVERY DAY WINE RANGE THAT YOU CAN UNWIND AND IS EASILY PAIRED WITH A GOOD MEAL.
Everyone of us has a dream no matter how big or small, no matter how silly or serious…just a dream. Being a tour guide and often passing Le Pommier Wine Estate, just over the Helshoogte Pass on your way to Franschhoek, I would always say to my international guests…ONE DAY I WILL LAY ON THAT TERRACE AND LOOK OVER THE DAM AT THE WATER FOUNTAIN AND STRETCHES OF MOUNTAINS IN THE DISTANCE….and that day came after 10 years… I had the amazing opportunity of spending the night at Le Pommier.
On arrival we were greeted by Candice who is very warm, friendly and helpful. She welcomed us and drove with us to our accommodation and gave us a brief of where everything was before we settled into our luxury suite set alongside the dam with a water fountain and the majestic mountains being the backdrop. Our suite was beautiful, by the way I love white and almost everything was white, so of course I fell in love with the room. The suite is quite big with a lounge area and bar fridge, coffee station, the 4 poster bed is beautiful, a fireplace indoors and the bathroom with the Victorian bath was super special, just what I needed later after a full day spent in Franschhoek, a bubble bath!
The scenery from the room is so so pretty. The dam is home to some really big fish and a family of ducks as well as really pretty flowers and willow trees hanging over the water and you are surrounded by huge majestic mountains. When it’s really hot, and it can get hot in the Valley, then you have a choice of a rim pool on the deck with braai facilities or a sparkling blue pool alongside the vineyards, both have loungers for you to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet surrounding you.
We decided on dinner at the Le Pommier Restaurant and were not sorry. The food was excellent. We decided on the Cape Malay chicken curry and the Bobotie, both served with sambals and yellow rice (we chose very South African dishes as you can see). It was quite a large portion but so tasty and I literally licked the bowl clean. There unfortunately was no place for desert…maybe next time!
The walk back to the room was beautiful under the starry skies and the sound of the fountain splashing on the water was tranquil. We sat outside for a while appreciating this but once it started getting chilly it was time to head in. We awoke the next morning feeling very refreshed and ready for the day. The bed and bedding is of very good quality and we had a very good nights sleep. We headed for breakfast at the restaurant and I enjoyed a half portion of Eggs Benedict as I am not a big eater and my husband had a Banhoek breakfast along with coffee and juice. It was delicious. The staff at the restaurant are friendly and accommodating.
We chose the right week end as they had a market, and I love markets. We strolled through the stalls and I bought a dress from On Point, we did a gin tasting and of course could not leave without a bottle or two. It was lovely. We sat outside on the lawns soaking in the beautiful weather while they prepared our wine pairing. It was then over to the wine tasting centre for a private wine pairing with Marc. It was fantabulous. Marc is really great at what he does and is very knowledgeable and passionate about the wines.
We tried 3 different wines:
Le Pommier Sauvignon Blanc 2021 paired with a creamy whipped feta with garlic and herb roasted cherry tomatoes with served grilled bread paired and secondly homed made chicken pie.
Le Pommier Rosé 2021 paired with smoked salmon and crème fraiche on a cucumber slice and secondly their homemade Bobotie.
Le Pommier Mac (cabernet franc Malbec) 2020 paired with Beef Carpaccio, pickled Shimeji mushroom and parmesan shavings.
You too can do these pairings @ R95 per person, but you do have to make a booking! There are other options as well. https://www.lepommier.co.za/shop-wines/
Finally we had to bid farewell to this beautiful piece of heaven in Franschhoek…but not without our 2 cases of wine.
Thanks so much for having us stay and for allowing us to experience Le Pommier Wine Estate
You can purchase you wines online https://www.lepommier.co.za/shop-wines/ or even better pay the estate a visit and enjoy a breakfast or lunch at the restaurant or/and a pairing on their beautiful deck outside.

zevenwacht wine estate
072 926 4204
Welcome to Zevenwacht, a certified estate, producing vegan friendly wine, situated on the beautiful Stellenbosch Wine Route, with panoramic views of Table Mountain, Table Bay and False Bay. The name “Zevenwacht”, derived from the Dutch “Seven Expectations” is a modern wine farm with a 300 year history. A family owned and managed Estate, the current owners, Harold and Denise Johnson purchased the farm in 1992, and have committed themselves to a programme of development to realise Zevenwacht’s rich potential beyond wine production. The estate has a strong commitment to historic and cultural preservation, as well as the active socio-economic upliftment of its workers and their families. Prime farming locations supply the Zevenwacht winery. The home vineyards on Zevenwacht’s 450 hectare maritime property supplies the bulk of the wine that fills the 1000 ton cellar.
Our winemaking philosophy is simple – quality begins in the vineyard. Our winemaker, Hagen Viljoen, has been entrusted with enticing the very best from these unique properties. Currently our Zevenwacht range of wines includes Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Zevenwacht is a member of the Biodiversity & Wine initiative (BWI), a partnership between the South African wine industry and Nature Conservation, aimed at alleviating the impact of agricultural activities on the environment. Primary goals are the protection of the ecology, the protection of biodiversity, including the preservation and rehabilitation of indigenous vegetation, the extermination of aliens and the responsible use of land. To this extent we conserve some 80 hectares of fynbos to the Renosterveld Bottelary Hills Conservancy, while 100 hectares is responsibly used for grape growing.

I felt that the time was right to open up things in the wine industry, to introduce more diversity into the industry. The best way to do that was to become a wine entrepreneur and make a difference from within.”.Koni believes that growing diversity in the wine industry is key to its survival, with women, Black, Indian, and Coloured people poised to bring new ideas, different thinking, and diverse mindsets to an industry that needs to innovate to survive in an environment constrained by COVID-19 and impacted by ever-soaring excise cost.
Koni Maliehe, born in Soweto, Rockville but partly raised by her loving grandparents in the Eastern Cape before settling in Cape Town has spent most of her career in the Financial Services sector as Head of Training & People Management. She resigned to start a wine business in 2015. She observed that each time a bottle of wine is opened that there are people and stories. We need to turn those moments into engaging, fruitful conversation about our heritage as citizens of South Africa.” – Koni

Join us to taste the Holden Manz range of award-winning wines among the vines at the entrance to our Franschhoek Kitchen. Our highly trained tasting room team will welcome you with a tutored tasting, provide background on the farm and answer your questions about our wines.
Our journey started more than a decade ago at the foot of the majestic Groot Drakenstein Mountains on one of the twenty-nine original French Huguenot-settled farms, where a few deeply passionate and experienced individuals were producing boutique volumes of world-class wines, enjoyed in some of the finest establishments in the world.
Passionate about the art of creating exceptional wines, the team dreamt of sharing their craft, their joy, with more people and so the idea of Clarington was born.
The approach remains very much hands-on. The finest grapes are carefully sourced from the best terroirs in the region by celebrated winemaker and viticulturist Johan Viljoen, allowing him to honour his minimum-interference wine-making approach. Bottles are carefully coated 5 times in special food-friendly, organic ink, bringing to life the exquisite globally-patented Mark Eisen design that allows for upcycling of the product, delivering to the team’s ambition of truly sustainable packaging.
The range continues to receive numerous local and global wine and design awards, but for the team, the ultimate reward remains the joy and inspiration Clarington brings to all those who enjoy it.

AA Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. 28ha of old bushvines grow in the Siebritskloof part of the Paardeberg mountain. The property is owned by the baie dynamic and good looking cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst. They are originally from Constantia. Their grandfather was the farm manager of Groot Constantia for 46 years. Their fathers were born there and farmed together in Constantia, during the days when people still ate fresh vegetables and Hanepoot grapes, drank Cinsault and there were a lot less traffic lights and hippies still had a presence. Together these two have restored a neglected cellar on the farm that was last used in the 1930′s to make natural wines in the traditional manner. They are also a popular wedding and event venue with beautiful accommodation on offer. An authentic farm hideaway, close enough to get to, yet a perfect place to get away from it all. A humble, rural retreat – enjoy wide-open spaces and fresh air, explore old vine vineyards, swim in the dams and expect the most spectacular sunsets and views.
Farm attractions include cellar tours and tastings (booked in advance); hiking; biking trails (own bikes); farm dams to swim & fish (catch & release); pony rides (booked in advance) and play areas with zip-line, swings, and cricket net for kids. There are animals everywhere and vegetable and herb gardens and fruit trees which you are welcome to harvest sustainably from.

Situated at the foothills of the Paardeberg Mountain in Paarl, one of the finest wine-growing areas of the Cape, lies Perdeberg Cellar. The hallmark and most differentiating quality of Perdeberg wines is our predominant use of unirrigated vineyards, termed dry land vines. Overcoming difficult growing conditions, dry land vines yield small berries with concentrated flavour and colour which in turn create superior wines. The winery’s rich history dates back to 1941, when a visionary wine farmer named Jan Rossouw suggested the area’s farmers begin producing their own wine. Perdeberg adopted its distinguishing name from the scores of Cape Mountain zebras that once roamed the Paardeberg area, mistaken for wild horses by local inhabitants. With a vineyard span of over 3000 hectares, mainly in the Paarl and Swartland regions, Perdeberg benefits from different microclimates and various soil types. The natural variation of weather, soil, drainage and altitude from vineyard to vineyard enables us to produce a wide range of wines with distinct qualities and character. In the cellar, our wines are created through the synergy of art, intuition and science to reveal the best of what has been brought in from the vineyards. We follow a wine estate inspired process including intensive vineyard management, handpicking grapes in small crates, small presses and maturing in barrels, to achieve exceptional quality. Perdeberg is better known as the Home of Chenin Blanc due to the multiple expressions of this significant cultivar in our wine ranges. A true South African drawcard, the Chenin Blanc grape does exceptionally well in the dry land environment. Perdeberg’s award-winning record over the years underscores our Chenin Blanc’s quality and excellence.
Wine Tasting : Join us for a wine tasting and combine them with our unique food pairings, including braai picnics and sweet treats like chocolate and marshmallows! Sit back and relax in good company with a glass in hand, either indoors in a comfortable setting, or outside in our attractive family-friendly seating area.

We are on the Tulbagh Wine Route. Our elevated cellar offers you amazing views of the various surrounding mountain ranges which are a wonderful sight in summer and beautifully snow-capped in the winter months.
Wineries and especially their vineyard workers are breathing a sigh of relief as natural techniques replace chemical technology at Waverley Hills. Working with nature produces a set of positive, even unintended results that help produce better wines. Waverley Hills is a unique winery: we are moving away from a system based on inputs of chemicals, to a management-based system of grape-growing, establishing a “green approach” to winemaking.
Waverley Hills wines are organically certified by ECOCERT, based in France, but conducts inspections in over 80 countries making it one of the largest organic certification organizations in the world. They stipulate that no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides may be used, in order to protect the environment and to produce grapes and olives as environmentally-friendly and healthy as possible.
Waverley Hills Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced from handpicked olives which are specially selected at optimal ripeness, including Leccino and Frantoio as dominate cultivars. A smooth and buttery mouthfeel with freshly cut grass and pungent peppery notes shape this complex olive oil.
